Education in China: 停止三好学生评比?

Very interesting!? Students who excel in schools should be recognized in some ways, and 三好学生评比 is one such good way in years. The real issue is not whether 三好学生评比 should be abolished in schools, but how to make it objective and fair. Criteria for 三好学生 in each school must be clearly established and a set procedure for selection must be closely followed. Equaly important, there should be also ways to recognize many other students who may not be 三好学生 but do excel in other areas of school education. Excellent students should be recognized and rewarded, but 三好学生评比 is only way of many effective ways. Don't abolish it, try to change it for the better!

星期天，海内外几家中文媒体分别转载了重庆晚报的一篇报道。报道说，中国教育学会会长顾明远星期六在重庆市南岸区召开的“基础教育首届学术年会”上呼吁停止评选“三好学生”，理由是不要“过早给孩子贴上好学生与坏学生的标签”。
报导援引顾明远的话说，评选“三好学生”实际把学生分成三六九等，结果给学生造成心理压力，同时在感情上伤害未被评上“三好学生”的孩子，不利于学生健康成长。他说，有的孩子大器晚成，在小学阶段会表现得非常一般，如果过早地给他一些“你不如别人”的心理暗示，会影响孩子今后的成长。
对顾明远的这番讲话，不少出席基础教育学术年会的教师当场表示支持，但是也有部分老师不敢苟同，认为评选“三好学生”能树立好榜样，未尝不可。“德智体”三方面都要好，是中国前领导人毛泽东在1950年代提出的。具体如何一个“好”法，似乎没有更具体的统一标准，往往是每个学校和班级决定的。
