Hometown
In my hometown,
I do not belong.
Paved streets,
Brick houses,
More cars than bicycles,
But no trees,
And the village is gone.
In my hometown,
I do not belong.
Noisy MaJiang halls,
Lyon-lighted massage parlors,
More food stands than bookstores,
But not one library,
And the cinema is closed down.
In my hometown,
I do not belong.
Stinky creeks,
Filthy ponds,
Plastic bags, foam plates
And flying papers
But no dumpster to be found.
In my hometown,
I do not belong.
Little kids running around,
Old people looking on,
All in the streets,
Chatting, shouting, laughing,
Cursing, fighting,
But where is the playground?
In my hometown,
I do not belong.
Things have changed,
For better or worse,
Let bygone be bygone?
